Cold Weather Our students did a great job last week. We’d like to thank our Lunch Supervisors for providing enough choices for our students to keep pretty busy and active during the lunch period. It looks like the cold weather is sticking around but we’ll be watching carefully. If the temperature gets above -20 with the wind chill we’ll be heading outside and expect students to be dressed for the weather. The forecast even has some temperatures that look reasonable for the last week of school before the Winter Break. Report Cards Our Grade 1-4 students will be bringing their first report card of the year home on Friday. We hope you will enjoy celebrating the accomplishments of your child over the first 4 months of the school year. We hope the report card including the comments along with the conferences you attended in November present a clear picture of what your child can do in relation to expectations in their current grade, their personal growth and the plans going forward to help your child reach their personal potential and beyond. The report card envelope will also contain a Term Plan that outlines the major learning objectives for students from January through March and the essential question(s) that will tie learning together and guide student learning within each grade over the next few months. Warm Feet for the Street Family Evening Thank you again for your donations and attendance at our Warm Feet for the Street Family Evening. The goals of School Council and the school were to create an event that brought our school community together and to make a difference and contribution to some fellow Calgarians who are currently experiencing some difficulty. We feel we did both. We would like to thank your community partners:
It is great to have local business partners supporting our school and community. 2017-2018 Kindergarten Registration

December 5-9 Parents, Cold Weather Preparation We are expecting a blast of winter weather this week. Our Bad Weather plan is outlined in our Parent Handbook but we’ll review it for you here so you can help your child be prepared. When the temperature is -20C or colder, with the wind chill, we stay inside. In the morning, beginning at 7:55AM, all outside doors will be opened so students can come directly into the school. We’ll hang out in the Gathering Area until classes begin. When everyone is bundled up and cars are covered in snow – extra care is required crossing the roads and driving around the school. We’ll be ready for students inside and want everyone to arrive safely. At lunchtime we will be showing a movie in the gym for Day 1. If the cold weather continues we will offer a variety of other activities inside at lunch. Students who go home for lunch are to go directly home and enter the school from the main entrance as soon as they return. Dismissal routines remain the same at the end of the day. Winter is a reality and we will continue to go outside when the temperature is above -20C which can still feel cold if students aren’t prepared for the weather. Warm Feet for the Street We are looking forward to our Warm Feet for the Street Family evening on Wednesday. A picture below shows our Grade 2 students sorting some of the hundreds of items that have been donated. A reminder that this is a family event and children need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult. It is also designed Open House Style. Arrive anytime between 6:00PM and 7:00PM and you’ll have time to participate in all the activities. We also have a picture of our Knitting Club who have spent many weeks learning to knit with the goal of donating their scarves to the Mustard Seed. The scarves will be on display on Wednesday. I was fortunate to capture a picture of our Grade 2 TASC buddies having lunch together. They are investing their time at lunch with students in our TASC program and I know each of them will “get as much as they give” with the gift of their time. Important Dates this week: Dec 5 – Popcorn Snack Day (pre-orders were required) Dec 6 – Grade 2 Dance Club and Grade 4 Knitting Club Dec 7 – Warm Feet for the Street Event – 6:00-7:30PM Dec 8 – Gr 3 Dance Club and Gr 4 Knitting Club Below are a couple of messages for all CBE parents. |
