Welcome to the last two months of the school year. Everyone enjoys the lighter evenings being outside and sleep might come a bit harder to our youngest learners. That’s how I remember it with my daughters anyways. It has been great watching the students enjoying the outside time at lunch with soccer games starting up and students perfecting their four-square and skipping skills or just enjoying the bits on sunshine in a sunny spot with a friend. I have also had the opportunity to watch how students and staff have welcomed several new students to New Brighton School over the last week. Having a great welcome to a new school, classroom and classmates goes a long way in making a new student be successful. Stress in school should be low and we are pleased with what we think is a welcoming, supportive environment where expectations can still be high. New Brighton School will be participating in Hats on for Mental Health on May 3. Hats often represent our “outside of school lives” and what we enjoy away from school. We look forward to seeing the variety of hats our staff and students wear on Wednesday as we celebrate diversity and good mental health. Teachers for the Day
Below are some more pictures from our Teachers for Friday collection. Our guest teachers did a great job – and our regular teachers commented, in a good way, how they could hear their words coming from the new teachers. Congratulations again for our great Read-a-Thon results. We Appreciate our Volunteers – Save the Date – Friday May 26 9-10AM So many things at school would not be possible without the support and help of our volunteers. This is so true in a new school. From building furniture, pumping up balls and labeling and labeling and labeling our reliance on volunteers began on the first day of school. In fact, our reliance on volunteers began even before the school was built with parents working on our behalf to begin a School Council and Fundraising Society. We have people volunteering in the school every day helping students practice their reading, create that perfect art project, solve the hard math problem and make sure field trips are well supervised. We’ve had concession stands and lots of School Council and Fundraising Society meetings attended by many parents. If you have volunteered in any way we would like to invite you to our Volunteer Tea. Invitations will be coming home soon but for now we would like you Save the Date: Volunteer Appreciation Tea Friday, May 26 from 9:00-10:00AM in the Gathering Area We hope you can attend.
